That's right, last night once again the GAD class, or at least some of it, engaged in...
War, With Lasers
This takes place all over university in my mind, but everyone else only seems to play it properly when in Megazone, which is the same as Laserquest or whatever it's called where you live. Fortunately, due to Abs being friendly with the guys who work there, we've been able to go a couple of times in the last few weeks.
However, to get there you have to go through the bad end of Leicester which can be a bit unnerving. It's amazing how quickly the surroundings go downhill when you walk in a certain direction from the town square, and I'm not talking about geographic gradients here either.
Fortunately the place itself is pretty good. It's not all fancy, but it's pretty big, very dark, and the inside is quite simply a UV light-baked maze that provides lots of snipery shootery fun. Though it always baffles me how people can keep hitting me consecutively while certain I'm in cover. I think some people are just really good at not being seen, even with big flashy lights on their sensor packs...
Unfrotunately all is not well in war with lasers. Both times we've been since arriving in Leicester, we've encountered those players who remove their sensor packs and use the gun, thereby making them impossible to hit. This strikes me as being a bit, well, unfair. Two particularly bad cases yesterday were when our team had taken a ramp, but we started getting shot up by a sniper who'd climbed up the wall and was hiding next to the ceiling a few meters away behind a few walls. I've no problem with people doing this, as getting into position is important, but he had his pack off, so no matter how much fire we threw into that corner, he kept picking us off. Grr!
Another time was when myself and four others, namely Tom, Toma, Megan and Alex had 40 lives each and rapid fire, while every other player was against us with 15 lives each. We took a dead-end area, which we could hold pretty easily. It should have gone so well, until some guy I'd never seen before popped his head up behind a window at the back (Which looked out onto the cafeteria - a no-go area), without his pack on, and started shooting us all in the back! That's not on!
Well thankfully we still won, which goes to show that raw hardcore will still win the day. Also, I give my thanks to a man I know only as Agent Barton, who, upon hunting me but then seeing me in a meditative crosslegged way, preaching peace, decided to leave me alone. Good choice, that man.
